Bumbleride Inc., of San Diego, California, along with the U.S. consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have announced a recall of Bumbleride Indie & Indie Twin Strollers. The recalled Bumleride Indie strollers were manufactured from January 2009 to August 2011. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled strollers because the front wheel can break at the axle hub, causing the stroller to tip. This creates a fall hazard.

Manufacturers of durable infant and toddler products like strollers, and cribs have a responsibility to manufacture and design safe products. Companies that recall products usually do so because the government directs them to according to law that requires a recall of products with certain hazards or defects. Wise companies bear a large expense in order to prevent periodic recalls because of the significant burden it places on manufacturers. Nevertheless, some products must be redesigned as technology and research lead to more effective safety precautions. A company should be held responsible for a product that causes harm or injury due to an unsafe design, especially if the company did nothing to warn the user or effectively recall the product.
